The brief

When we were approached by The Bookshop, a local award-winning restaurant, we were delighted. Like us, the restaurant loves to champion local brands, which is how they decided to contact Fritz Fryer to design the lighting scheme of their planned expansion. The goal was to create an effortlessly cool, industrial aesthetic.

The design process

After a few site visits, Simon decided on some fantastic industrial-style Fritz Fryer lights that would best compliment the space. The stunning Grafton pendant light draws inspiration from a love of engineering and clock and watch design, with a distinctly industrial feel. These were installed above the welcome counter to greet guests upon entry to the restaurant.

The beautiful arched windows showcase gorgeous skinny ribbed Upton pendant lights on an antique brass and elephant grey pendant set, which adds a slightly rustic feel.

Dotted around the main restaurant are white glass Hereford globe pendant lights, industrial-looking pendants that create a gorgeous warm glow throughout the space.

Above the large communal table, at the centre of the restaurant, is a large clear glass Hereford globe cluster chandelier, featured on yellow flex cables. This feature piece was included to draw the eye and provide ample lighting for diners.

The Bookshop is an award-winning restaurant that advocates for the reducing their impact on the planet. Their genuine, considered approach to supporting quality local suppliers (they even have a dedicated butchery department on site), they have eliminated single use plastics and use renewable energy sources. All of which reinforces their passion for modern, ethical eating.
