Looking to add drama to your home, restaurant or reception?

Discover the magic of luxury chandeliers at Fritz Fryer Lighting. Our contemporary and vintage chandeliers bring timeless charm and style to your space. Illuminate your life.

Nothing changes a room like a chandelier. It is the one fitting that is pure statement, light and sculpture at once, and it belongs in far more rooms than people think: not just ballrooms and stairwells, but dining rooms, bedrooms, even bathrooms, anywhere you want the ceiling to earn a second look.

We have made and restored chandeliers in our Herefordshire workshop since 1982, and the collection reflects both crafts: genuine restored antiques like our 19th century crystal chandelier, 8-branch French waterfall and bag chandelier and Edwardian electrolier, alongside made-to-order pieces like our modern crystal plafonnier, built in solid brass and real crystal by the same hands.

Every antique is restored, rewired in line with current standards and safety-tested; every new piece is made to order, sized and dropped to your room. The two things to get right are size and height, and that is what we are for: send us your room dimensions and ceiling height and we will recommend honestly, including when a smaller piece will do the job better.

What size chandelier do I need?

As a guide, add the room’s length and width in feet, and that number in inches gives a good chandelier diameter. Over a dining table, aim for half to two-thirds of the table’s width. Err larger rather than smaller, a chandelier that is too small looks lost. Tell us your dimensions and we will recommend before we make.

How low should a chandelier hang?

Over a dining table, hang a chandelier 75 to 90 centimetres above the surface. In open floor space, keep at least 2.1 metres of clearance beneath. In a stairwell or double-height hall, the chandelier can drop much lower, into the sightline where it can be enjoyed. We set the drop to your room.

Are your chandeliers real crystal?

Our crystal chandeliers, antique and new, use real hand-cut crystal, which is what gives the rainbow sparkle glass never quite matches. New crystal pieces are made to order; antique pieces are restored with missing drops replaced from our stock of period crystal. We are always clear which is which.

Are antique chandeliers safe to use?

Ours are. Every antique chandelier we sell is dismantled, restored, rewired in line with current standards and safety-tested in our Herefordshire workshop before sale, with crystal individually cleaned and missing drops replaced. Untested antiques from general dealers should always be rewired before use.

Can a chandelier work in a room with a low ceiling?

Yes, in the right spot. Over a dining table or bed, normal headroom rules do not apply, nobody walks there, so a low-hung chandelier works even where standing height would rule one out. For open floor space with low ceilings, a flush or semi-flush crystal plafonnier gives the sparkle without the drop.

Can chandeliers be dimmed?

Yes, and they should be. All our chandeliers take dimmable LED bulbs on a compatible dimmer, so the piece can run bright and sparkling or drop to a candlelit glow. Dimmable warm-white LEDs suit crystal especially, and keep the running cost of a multi-branch fitting sensible.

How much do chandeliers cost?

Made-to-order chandeliers start at prices comparable with premium retail brands and rise with size and complexity; restored antiques are priced individually by period, rarity and condition. What you are buying either way is real materials, four decades of craft, and a piece made or remade to last generations.

Can you make a chandelier to fit my stairwell?

Yes. Chandelier sizing is what made-to-order is for: we set the diameter, drop and light count to your void or room from your measurements and photographs. We can also replicate period chandeliers, match an existing piece for a second room, or restore one you already own.
