Heritage and commercial projects
At Fritz Fryer, we have over 100 years of combined experience in lighting restoration and refurbishment. With our extensive network of artisan makers and suppliers, we can tackle a vast array of projects.
Whether you are working on a café fit-out with vintage pendants or working on a heritage project with original luminaires – we can help. Our restoration team all have the correct site safety certificates and qualifications for working on site, such as CSCS cards, Pasma and Ipaf, etc.

Crystal chandelier restoration service
Our talented restorers can transform your antique crystal chandelier. This service includes sourcing missing or damaged crystal droppers, as well as cleaning, polishing, refinishing and repairing any damaged components, before rewiring in line with current standards. We are happy to oversee the removal, safe transportation and reinstallation of complex or large pieces.

Exterior lantern restoration service
The restoration team have the knowledge and tools to completely restore both interior and exterior lanterns, which means there is no large scale, heritage project too big, or personal residential project too small. They can seal and coat antique lanterns to ensure that they will be safe for outdoor use and be less likely to become weathered.
Rewiring service
Do you have a cherished lamp or pendant light that needs some tlc? Why not send it to us for cleaning, repairing and rewiring? Our workshop has a steady flow of table lamps, standard lamps and pendants awaiting their moment in our workshop, before being delivered back to our many happy customers for another generation of illumination. Whether your lamp needs a simple rewire or a more extensive restoration, I’m sure we can help, so get in touch with our team.
Lighting restoration standards
All restoration is completed as authentically as possible, giving full consideration to current British/EU standards. Antique light fittings being restored fall outside of the LVD (Low Voltage Directive) and Luminaire safety standard = EN 60598-1 as they are not new to market. However, all repair work is done following these same standards wherever possible. Occasionally, an inherent design feature may make it impossible for a restored fitting to comply with every element of the modern safety standards (e.g. the base weight of a delicate antique table lamp might cause it to fail the modern standards regarding stability).
We will never complete cleaning alone on a chandelier or other light fitting, that we deem upon inspection to be unsafe or which fails a PAT test (e.g. not earthed, not double insulated, degraded components, general poor electrical safety). We will insist upon rewiring the fitting to make it safe or that the fitting is collected without the work being done.
Upon receipt of either the light fitting or detailed photographs of it along with any additional information we request about it, we will supply an estimate for the restoration to which we add a 15% contingency charge.
If you wish to go ahead with the restoration, a deposit of 25% of the estimate total is required to confirm your instruction to complete the work.
Once the work is started, if there are any unexpected additional costs above this contingency, we will contact you to confirm how you would like us to proceed. Unfortunately, the nature of antique restoration means that unanticipated complications do occasionally occur.
Once the work is completed, if the 15% contingency has not been needed, it will be deducted from your final invoice.
We will advise you, using the contact information you provide to us and usually by email, once your item(s) are ready for collection.
Restoration must be paid for in full before items are collected.
If you can’t collect your item within 1 month of restoration, we can arrange short term storage at our premises (space permitting) for a small weekly charge based upon size. If any item is not collected within 1 month, without prior agreement from us regarding storage, we reserve the right to charge of £10 per week for fittings up to 1m x 1m and £25 a week for larger or multiple items.
For any items not collected after one year from the completion of the work, if we cannot contact the owner via email, post or telephone number given, Fritz Fryer reserve the right to dispose of or sell the item.
Whilst we have public liability insurance, it is a mandatory requirement that any item left with or collected by us for repair is covered by the customers own insurance, and left with us entirely at the customers own risk.
Please be advised: We take every possible care of all items left with us. However, rewiring, repairing and altering items (particularly when they are fragile, vintage/antique or damaged) is not risk free. No insurance policy is likely to cover any damage to an item that occurs during the normal restoration process (by way of example, where previous damage is exposed or worsened once a fitting is dismantled which renders it irreparable).
