A pendant light is the single most useful fitting in lighting: one cable, one shade, endless possibility. Over a kitchen island, a dining table, a bedside or a stairwell, the right pendant puts light exactly where you want it and gives the room a focal point at the same time.
Ours are designed and handmade in our Herefordshire workshop, as we have done since 1982, in solid hand-spun brass, proper glass and honest finishes, from small pendant lights for corners and counters to large pendant lights that anchor a room, and linear pendant lighting like our Parlour and Aston for long tables and bars. Because every pendant is made to order, the drop is set to your ceiling, the finish to your room.
The questions people ask us most are about height and size: 75 to 90 centimetres above a table or worktop, at least 2.1 metres of clearance anywhere people walk. Tell us your room and we will help you choose, honestly, including when a smaller or simpler pendant will serve you better.

For most kitchen islands, two or three pendants sit right: roughly one for every 60 to 80 centimetres of island length, each with a diameter around a third of the island’s width. For long islands a linear pendant is an elegant alternative. Send us your island dimensions and we will advise.
Match the pendant to what hangs beneath it: around a third of a table or island’s width for a single pendant, smaller for pairs and trios. In open floor space, add the room’s length and width in feet and that number in inches is a good diameter. We will confirm the size from your dimensions before we make it.
Yes. All our pendants take LED bulbs and dim normally with dimmable LEDs on a compatible dimmer, so the same pendant can be bright task light by day and low warm light by night. We can recommend bulb and dimmer pairings for each fitting.
Yes, that is the point of made-to-order. Every Fritz Fryer pendant is made in our Herefordshire workshop with the drop set to your ceiling and room, from a low cottage ceiling to a double-height stairwell. Finishes and shade sizes can be matched to your scheme too.
Yes. Our pendants are made from solid hand-spun brass and proper glass, built for daily commercial use and tested to current standards. We supply runs of matching pendants for restaurants, bars, cafés, hotels and offices, quoted per project with schedules agreed at the outset.
