Café Lighting

Café lighting can have an enormous impact on the overall atmosphere. From cosy lights to enjoy a coffee beneath, to practical fittings to line work areas, explore our range of beautiful lighting solutions for cafés.

Café lighting has one real test: would you want to sit in it for an hour? Harsh, flat light sends people home early; warm, low, interesting light keeps tables full and coffees flowing. The difference matters as much for a home coffee corner as for a busy commercial café.

We design and make café lighting in our Herefordshire workshop, as we have since 1982, for cafés, coffee shops, home breakfast rooms and kitchen nooks. Because every fitting is made to order, we can match your interior, produce runs of matching pendants over the counter and tables, and keep the character that makes a café feel like somewhere rather than anywhere, from café pendant lighting like our Retro Café Lamp to café wall lighting and café ceiling lights.

Café fittings work hard: knocks, cleaning, long daily hours. Ours are made from solid brass and proper glass to cope. Tell us about your café, home or commercial, and we will be straight about what will work, what it costs, and how long it takes.

What lighting is best for a café?

Café lighting works best warm, low and layered: pendants over the counter and tables, wall lights for glow, and a focal fitting with character. The test is simple, would you sit in it for an hour? Fritz Fryer makes each of these to order for cafés and home coffee corners alike.

How high should pendant lights hang over café tables?

Over café tables, pendants should hang 75 to 90 centimetres above the table surface, low enough to give each table its own pool of warm light, high enough for sightlines across the room. Because our pendants are made to order, we set the drop to your table height.

Are your café lights suitable for commercial use?

Yes. Our café fittings are made from solid hand-spun brass and proper glass, built for the knocks, cleaning and long daily hours of commercial use, and wired and tested to current standards in our workshop. We supply matching runs for cafés and coffee shops, priced per project.

Can café lighting be made to match my interior?

Yes. Every fitting is made to order, so finishes, sizes and drops can be matched to your interior, from a stripped-back industrial coffee shop to a country café. We also make retro café fittings with the galvanised and enamel character of the originals.

Can café lights be dimmed?

Yes. All our café fittings take dimmable LED bulbs on a compatible dimmer, useful for shifting a café from bright mornings to softer late afternoons. We can recommend bulb and dimmer pairings for each fitting.

What lighting style suits a café?

Cafés suit honest, unfussy fittings: retro enamel and galvanised pendants, brass and glass classics, and warm clusters over communal tables. The warmth of handmade fittings keeps a café feeling personal rather than fitted-out. For a home coffee corner, one characterful pendant is often enough.

How much do café lights cost?

Single made-to-order fittings are priced comparably with premium retail brands; commercial runs are quoted per project with volume pricing. What you are buying is solid materials, handmaking in Herefordshire, and fittings built to survive years of daily service rather than needing replacing in two.

How long does a made-to-order café light take?

Most pieces take a few weeks, made by hand to your order. For commercial projects we agree a schedule at the outset so fittings land with your fit-out. Tell us your deadline and we will confirm honestly whether we can meet it.
