Some rooms have no off-the-shelf answer: the stairwell that needs a chandelier at exactly this drop and spread, the dining room whose proportions demand something made for it alone. Bespoke is where our workshop does its best work, and it has been the heart of Fritz Fryer since 1982.
Every bespoke piece is designed and handmade in our Herefordshire workshop in solid hand-spun brass, proper glass and real crystal: staircase clusters like our bespoke staircase cluster chandelier and long drop cluster, one-off chandeliers for stairwells and halls, runs of matched fittings for hotels and restaurants, and faithful replications of period originals.
The process is simple and honest. Send us the room, dimensions, photographs and what you are trying to achieve. We come back with a recommendation, sketches where needed, a firm quote and a lead time, and if an existing fitting will do the job for less, we will tell you that instead. Once you are happy, your piece is made by hand, wired and tested before dispatch.
A bespoke light fitting is designed and made specifically for your room: the size, drop, light count, finish and detail all set to your space, or a piece designed from scratch for it. Fritz Fryer bespoke pieces are handmade in our Herefordshire workshop, as they have been since 1982.
Bespoke work is quoted by complexity and size, always before we make anything: a customised version of an existing design often costs little more than standard, while one-off commissions are priced individually. There is no obligation in asking, and we will always say if a standard fitting will do the job for less.
Lead times depend on complexity: adaptations of existing designs typically take a few weeks, while one-off commissions take longer and are scheduled with you at the outset. Tell us your deadline and we will confirm honestly whether we can meet it before you commit.
Yes, stairwells are our most common bespoke commission. Send us the void’s height and footprint with photographs, and we will design the cluster or chandelier to fill it properly, with the drop, spread and light count set to your exact measurements, made, wired and tested in our workshop.
Yes. Replicating period fittings is work we have done since 1982: matching a lost chandelier arm by arm, or reproducing an original for a second room. Send us photographs and dimensions and we will assess what replication involves and quote before any work begins.

Yes. We regularly design and make bespoke pieces and matched runs for hotels, restaurants, bars and offices, from centrepiece chandeliers to whole-scheme fittings, quoted per project with schedules agreed at the outset and documentation for your contractors.
Every bespoke fitting is wired and tested in our workshop before dispatch, exactly as our standard pieces are. For commercial projects we can provide the documentation your electrician or building control needs, so tell us at the outset what your project requires.
