In 2010 we began a huge chandelier restoration project; the stunning antique chandeliers in the Grade II listed Cheltenham Town Hall and the Grade I listed Pittville Pump Room were in a poor state of repair and needed completely overhauling and the work needed to be carefully co-ordinated to avoid conflicts with important events, concerts and festivals at the Town Hall and Pump Room.
The work began with a visit to Cheltenham to allow us to ascertain the condition of each of the chandeliers and record broken parts. A detailed estimate for the restoration of each chandelier was drawn up and then a plan was prepared to accomodate enough time to repair each chandelier in between events. One by one the valuable antique chandeliers, were carefully removed and transported to our workshop in Ross On Wye where the chandelier restoration took place. Each chandelier was carefully repaired, rewired and cleaned by hand and then returned and reinstalled in Cheltenham.
The quality of an antique chandelier is not just a question of how good is the crystal; the metal frame is also very revealing. The frame below is from one of the Pittville chandeliers made by F&C Osler. They were all hand made and each arm is numbered to fit into it's own individually hand cut plate. Pure craftsmanship!
There are a total of 8, stunning Victorian crystal chandeliers which are housed around the beautiful buildings of the Town Hall and Pump Room and they make a spectacular sight, having been carefully restored to their former glory. In addition to the chandelier restoration, we are working on numerous spectacular plaffoniers and gilt and cut crystal wallsconces made by F&C Osler which are also housed in the Town Hall.
