In 'the good old days' at Fritz Fryer the workshop was located in the basement of Fritz's house. Subject to the occasional flood, it was not unheard of for the restorers to be stood on upturned beer crates while they worked on the restoration of a priceless antique chandelier. Times, and health and safety legislation, have changed and they are now housed in a dry, but not altogether practical former garage.
As part of our 10 year anniversary plan we have decided to remain in our wonderful building, part of the original Ross on Wye brewery, but we need to reorganise the 5000square feet of space we enjoy. The workshop is the first target. They are to be relocated to a larger area and have a purpose built space with separate rooms for restoration, colouring, welding, polishing and lacquering.
Hopefully the end result will give us the space to employ more restorers and a nicer environment to work in. Rich was overheard this week saying 'it's going to be much easier to keep tidy'... I might just hold him to that!
The work has started well, here's how it's looking at the end of week one. Plans are also afoot for the office and main showroom, so watch this space.
