About Fritz Fryer Antique Lighting

In 2004 we, Karen and Simon Wallis-Smith were renovating a cottage just outside Ross On Wye and we purchased some lights from Margaret at Fritz Fryer Antique Lighting. We liked it so much we bought the company and never looked back!

Fortunately Margaret, our Shop Manager with 20 years’ experience, and James, our Workshop Manager with 15 years’ experience, decided to stay on with us and teach us the antique lighting trade.  We have since been joined by Richard, a specialist antique lighting restorer and Kate who organises all our marketing and PR.

Our Values

We sell and restore antique lighting for customers who are looking for a quality, unique product for their home.  We pride ourselves on our restoration, which is second to none and our reputation is of the utmost importance to us. We strive to maintain and promote integrity within the antiques industry.

The antiques industry was ahead of its time in discovering the value of recycling.  The beauty of our original antique light fittings is that they were made to last, from high quality materials and with a high standard of craftsmanship.  In addition, recent developments in low energy light bulbs mean that we can now claim a low carbon footprint throughout the life of our product.

Our History

The business was opened in 1982 by Four Pennies band member Fritz Fryer and his partner Joan Graham.  Fritz grew the business and gained a formidable reputation for high quality antique lighting. Fritz and Joan retired in 2004, when the business was bought by Karen and Simon.  It has continued to go from strength to strength and our collection is now housed in one of the original (5000sqft)  Georgian brewery buildings in Ross On Wye.

Our Location

We are in the beautiful location of Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire at the end of the M50 and on the Gloucestershire border, with great links to the North, South, Midlands and Wales.  We feel priviledged to be able to work and live in the beautiful county of Herefordshire. We incorporate a Herefordshire theme into our photography, with many of our photos involving stunning antique chandeliers, and other antique light fittings, photographed in Herefordshire barns. In addition our own, hand made, contemporary collection is all named after Herefordshire towns and villages. With such a beautiful location on offer, the best way to see our lighting collection is to pay us, and Herefordshire, a visit.

Our Appeal

We have one of the largest collections of antique lighting in the country and a warehouse full of unrestored stock which hasn’t yet made it to the website.  If you want to see our extensive collection why not pay us a visit?
